“Life at its best in Chapel Hill” is not just a slogan. Governors Club is a welcoming community made up of interesting, diverse people who are active in social and volunteer organizations both within and outside of the gates.

Governors Club residents come from all over the US and the world. Approximately one-third of the community is families with children, one-third is working professionals and one-third is active retirees. Properties range from village homes to grand estates to accommodate a wide range of incomes and lifestyles.

Most residents are new to the area and eager to forge friendships. Newcomers are quickly welcomed with neighborhood potluck events, Women Connecting coffees, community-wide mixers, and casual get-togethers geared toward residents moving from specific states or cities.

In addition to joining the Governors Club country club, Governors Club homeowners can get involved through a variety of activities. These resident-organized groups span many interests, including 18 book clubs, 3 Bible study groups, a hiking club and a home and garden club. A recent garden club walk featured four of the Great Gardens of Governors Club. Community-wide events include an art show, trick-or-treating, a dog show, and luminaries by the lake. Residents are kept up to date with a monthly newsletter, a monthly E-Bulletin and a private website.

Community involvement is a way of life for residents of Governors Club. They volunteer for and contribute to non-profits in Chatham County, Chapel Hill, Orange County and Durham. The community is particularly proud of being the largest private source of funding for the United Way of Chatham County.

Residents light up Governors Club during the holidays and raise funds for the Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill during the annual Luminaries by the Lake holiday party.
